GENERAL PROPERTIES

Alloy G-3 is nickel-chromium-iron alloy with addition of molybdenum and copper. The alloy has excellent corrosion resistance to oxidizing chemicals and atmospheres while offering resistance to reducing chemical resulting from the nickel and copper content.

 

RESISTANCE TO CORROSION

Alloy G3 has excellent corrosion resistance to oxidizing chemicals and atmospheres while offering resistance to reducing chemicals resulting from the nickel and copper content. The high molybdenum provides very good resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion. The low carbon helps prevent sensitization, giving the alloy resistance to inter-granular corrosion.

WELDING

Welding of Alloy G3 alloy is performed through commonly used welding techniques like gas tungsten arc welding, shielded metal-arc welding, metal-arc welding and submerged-arc welding. However, an alloy filler metal that suits this alloy should be used.

 

HEAT TREATMENT

Alloy G3 may be annealed, but does not respond to age-hardening. It is normally furnished in the annealed condition. It is important to anneal after hot or cold working in order to restore optimum corrosion resistance.
