A hose clamp is designed to be used to secure a hose over a fitting by clamping the hose down, which prevents liquid or gas escaping from that hose. The most common uses for hose clamps are in car engines and bathroom fitting but can be used in a variety of different industries to secure the safe transportation of products, liquids, gases or chemicals.
There are several different categories of hose clamps which are; screw/band, spring, wire and ear. Each clamp is used differently depending on the type of hose and what is going to be attached to it at the end.
The most popular and commonly used type of hose clamp is the screw/band type, which also has several different types. These types are;
- Jubilee Clips; Also referred to as worm drive hose clips, Jubilee clips are the most popular as they are the most simple to install, they extremely effective and they are also extremely versatile.
- Heavy Duty Hose Clamps; Heavy Duty Hose Clamps, also called Superclamps, do exactly what their title suggests. These type of hose clamps are ideally suited to heavy-duty application. They are the strongest of the different types of clamps and are ideal for more difficult applications.
- O clips; O clips are the most economical form of the hose clamp and work perfectly for the assembly of simple hoses, carrying air and fluid only. These type of clamps are more flexible as well as tamper proof.
All of these types of hose clamps can come in a range of sizes, diameters and materials but the majority of hose clamps are made from stainless steel with a mild steel screw.
